Working for the community

During the 2008-09 school year, the club’s 50 members, supported and sponsored by La Jolla Rotary Club, contributed a total of more than 1,800 volunteer hours. Members built two homes for impoverished families in Tijuana, collected and distributed 2,700 pounds of food, helped paint the Riford Senior Center and tutored at La Jolla Elementary school. The club was led by board of directors, from left, Evelyn Liu, secretary; Ashley Wei, 2012 class director and 2009 Rookie of the Year; Roger Li, treasurer; Itto Kabbage, president; Tali Gires, vice president, 2010 class director and 2009 Volunteer of the Year; and Alice Schukin, 2011 class director.
