An unidentified 22-year-old woman who was walking with her boyfriend on Coast Boulevard in La Jolla just before 3 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, was injured when she fell approximately 20 feet from the cliffs at 1155 Coast Blvd.
The pair had been strolling near Girard Avenue and the tide pools across from the high-rise condominiums at 939 Coast Blvd. Maurice Luque, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokesman, said the woman’s boyfriend called for help from his cell phone at 3 a.m. Copter 1 was sent to the scene.
“The woman fell from the cliff’s edge two stories, a straight drop, down below to the rocks,” said Luque, adding that she suffered non-life threatening injuries to her lower extremities.
Luque said Copter 1 circled a couple times while firefighters prepared her to be lifted from the rocks for transport to the hospital.
It was the first solo-night rescue for T.J. Lockwood, one of 11 new medics who’ve been training the past year for duty aboard Fire-Rescue Department’s Copter 2. That helicopter is scheduled to arrive the end of August.
