Woman dies in I-5 crash near Gilman Drive
An investigation was under way Friday into a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 5 in San Diego in which a woman was killed and another woman wound up in a hospital with a broken leg and other injuries, authorities said.
The crash on northbound Interstate 5, south of Gilman Drive, was reported at 11:28 p.m. Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A 32-year-old woman driving a 1997 Infinity Q45 lost control of her vehicle for unknown reasons and struck a guardrail in the center median, causing the SUV to flip onto its roof, the CHP reported.
A 58-year-old woman driving a 2005 Ford Focus traveling behind the Infinity struck it and veered to the right, smashing into a tree on the right shoulder, according to the CHP.
The woman in the Infinity died at the scene, while the woman in the Ford was taken to a hospital with a broken leg and other injuries, the CHP reported.
The name of the woman killed was withheld pending notification of her next of kin. According to the CHP, she lived in Solana Beach.
