Wind ‘N Sea Swim TeamMore than 400 swimmers from around the county participated in the recent “C” All Ages swim meet hosted by the Wind ‘N Sea Swim Team at Coggan Family Aquatic Complex at La Jolla High School.
Thirty-five swimmers from the Wind ‘N Sea team, which works out at the complex, competed in the meet for swimmers 6 to 17 years old.
Paton McClung, the team’s head coach, said, “Our meet was a “C” level meet which means it was geared more toward the beginning-level competitive swimmer. I thought it was an excellent opportunity for our newer swimmers to compete and for many of them it was their first taste of real competition.”
Some of the team’s veterans competed as well, including some who just moved into older age brackets as did some who want to race in events that aren’t their favorites, he added.
Among them were veteran Danielle Collins, who attends Muirlands Middle School and just turned 13. She swam the 400-yard individual medley for the first time, while her younger sister, Nikki, 9, a student at Bird Rock Elementary, took her first stab at the 500-yard freestyle.
Added McClung: “The meet also provided us with an opportunity to showcase our wonderful La Jolla pool. Many people still don’t realize the CFAC, although located at La Jolla High School, is a community pool that is open to the public almost every day. It’s a great facility and it’s great for the community to see it in action.”
The team journeyed to Mission Viejo June 20-21 for the TYR Swim Meet of Champions.
