What’s new at the San Diego County Fair?

New theme

Summer of Sports is the 2008 fair theme, celebrating athletics and sportsmanship in the county and beyond. The Summer of Sports Exhibit will showcase sports history, memorabilia, interactive exhibits and more. Appearances by notable athletes will happen each day, and will include many very famous athletes from a variety of sports. This year’s theme exhibit is presented by Jeffrey Scott Fine Magnetics.

New celebrities to meet and greet

Several well-known athletes will be at the fair each day - people such as baseball’s Tony Gwynn; track and field’s Steve Scott; boxer Julio Cesar Chavez; soccer champion Shannon MacMillan; jockey Julie Krone: and off-road racer Ivan “The Ironman” Stewart.

New contests and activities

Each year, the fair has fun and new one-day contests. These new contests do not require pre-registration.

To celebrate the theme, the fair will be the start and finish of the Aflac Iron Girl Del Mar 10K and 5K Run/Walk on June 22. Sign up at

, and get two free tickets to the fair.

Santee’s Stangpede transform a stock late-model vehicle into a show car complete with a new body, supercharger, suspension and brakes, exhaust system and more. The car will be displayed outside of the AgriFair building near the O’Brien Gate and near the east end of the Grandstand. All to benefit the Don Diego Scholarship Fund.

New entertainment

Many nationally known musicians and singers, as well as some very thrilling show, will be making their first appearance here at the fair.

New attractions

The JVC Hi-Def Experience will bring to the fair a literal truckload of great new electronic equipment that fair-goers can see and try out. Included will be TVs with built-in iPod docks, Everio high-definition camcorders, and the TH-F3 surround home theater system. JVC will also present an Everio Gem Game that will allow consumers to participate in a touch-screen matching game to win JVC products. Every day at the south end of the Chevrolet Del Mar Arena.

Rock Band, a new interactive music video game, lets you become a star of a rock band. Step on to the Rock Band superstage, with monitors, monster sound and multiple Rock Band game stations to test your gaming skills or enter the Rock Band competition for prizes and perhaps the chance to move up to the final competition. Every day near the Coors Light Rock On Stage on the edge of the Fun Zone.

The high-energy 2008 Adrenaline Jam Tour, produced by Interactive Game Experience (IGX), is coming to the fair for 21 days of electronic gaming entertainment. The attraction is free with fair admission and you will find it near the Infield Bridge. The Adrenaline Jam Tour includes several generations of Nintendo Wii, PlayStation and Xbox games, ezVision video glasses, and more.
