Westfield officials said Thursday they’re ready to start on the first phase of remaking their UTC complex, which will include the addition of a 14-screen ArcLight Cinemas theater.
The renovation will include remaking the old Robinsons-May building, with ArcLight’s high-end theater experience that will include luxury stadium seating, reservations and no late seating after movies begin. The theater will occupy the upper portion of the building and 24 Hour Fitness will take over the lower portion with a Super Sport Club.
Arclight Cinemas, currently only in Los Angeles County, will show traditional as well as art films, cult favorites and classics.
Also planned is a Tender Greens organic restaurant and makeover of the food court at the ice rink, Tom Tierney, senior vice president for Westfield in San Diego, said they will enclose the food area and create a dining terrace with new furnishings and finishes. They also will recreate an area that they call Palm Plaza, where outside seating and a water fountain now sit outside the food court.
Tierney said they will also upgrade the overall appearance with new store facades and new shops and restaurants.
Work will start soon, with completion anticipated before the holiday shopping season in 2012.
