Football

La Jolla High School suffered a 37-24 defeat to Lincoln High School on Oct. 3, falling behind early and then mounting a comeback that fell just short.

The Vikings spotted Lincoln a 31-7 lead through the midpoint of the third quarter, but came back to within one touchdown of the Hornets thanks to 63-yard touchdown pass from Henry Nawahine to Yoshi Rothman, a 46-yard scoring run from Andy Jones and Lee Abelkop’s 34-yard field goal.

Lincoln scored once more with less than three minutes to play, though, and La Jolla’s comeback bid was finished.

Robbie Beathard led the Vikings with 86 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, and Matt Petch rushed seven times for 78 yards.

Kitt Livingston made nine tackles, while Nawahine, Rothman and Petch each had eight.

The Bishop’s School eased to a 48-7 victory over Southwest of El Centro on Oct. 3.

Junior running back A.J. Chederick led the offensive onslaught with 17 carries for 210 yards and four touchdowns. Joey Moreno completed nine of his 15 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. Micah Seau caught that scoring pass, one of his three receptions totaling 55 yards.

Mike P. Jensen had seven tackles and two sacks, Seau had two sacks, and Alex Carrillo contributed 10 tackles.

La Jolla Country Day stumbled to a 76-7 defeat at the hands of Francis Parker on Oct. 3. The Torreys scored first on an 8-yard Derek Hatfield touchdown run that capped an 80-yard, 9 minute, 30 second drive, but then allowed 11 straight Francis Parker scores.

La Jolla High School vs. The Bishop’s School

This matchup would create great interest based solely on the proximity of the schools, as the teams could without much trouble poke their heads over the others’ fences to get a scouting report. It’s always an even better battle because the Vikings and Knights are both regularly competitive for the CIF San Diego Section Division II championship.
