Girls basketballLa Jolla Country Day missed out on a shot at another state championship game. The Torreys fell to Los Angeles Marlborough, 69-62, in the CIF State Division IV Southern California final at Cal State Fullerton on March 17.
Dominique Conners led the Torreys with 19 points in the loss.
Country Day, which had a nine-game winning streak snapped, finished its season 24-8.
BaseballLa Jolla High School advanced to the championship game of the Bully’s Tournament with a 3-1 victory over Mission Hills on March 12.
Sophomore Patrick Christiansen pitched six scoreless innings, striking out seven batters and improving his record to 2-0, and Casey Richmond worked the seventh inning to earn the save. Trent Jemmett led the offense with two hits and an RBI.
The Vikings fell in the championship game, 2-1, to Patrick Henry on March 14. Richmond pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, and David Harpster had two hits in the loss.
La Jolla Country Day dropped a 3-1 game to Imperial on March 12 in the Christian Patriots tournament. Junior Kyle Reese worked five solid innings on the mound, and sophomore John Kennedy pitched well over the final two frames. The Torreys’ lone run came on a Greg Wisenberg home run.
The Bishop’s School fell, 21-4, to San Ysidro in the Bully’s Tournament on March 12.
SoftballLa Jolla High School fell to Our Lady of Peace, 8-7, in the Friars Classic on March 13. Becky Foster and Alessia Taylor hit home runs for the Vikings in the losing effort.
Track and fieldLa Jolla High School’s boys and girls teams combined to finish first of eight teams in the Division II group at the Sweetwater Relays on March 17, scoring 180 points to second-place Clairemont’s 112. Of the 21 relay events, La Jolla finished first in 10 and second in nine.
Ashley Fu won the long jump with a mark of 16 feet, 1 inches, and Allyn Meyer was third. Lauren Christiansen and Melia Plotkin finished first and second, respectively, in the pole vault, both clearing 9-6.
La Jolla Country Day’s boys team won both ends of a three-team meet on March 15, beating Horizon Christian, 88-44, and toppling San Dieguito Academy, 77-59. Alex Maire, Alex Poyhonen, Andy Altman and Colin Tuck made significant contributions for the boys team.
The Torreys’ girls team beat Horizon, 107-18, and defeated San Dieguito Academy, 70-61. Lauren Pischel and Jewels Johnson stood out for the girls team.
SwimmingLa Jolla High School’s boys team dropped a 119-51 decision to Torrey Pines on March 15. The Vikings’ girls team also fell, 99-71.
Boys lacrosseLa Jolla High School fell to San Dieguito Academy, 5-3, on March 14. David Gardner scored twice for the Vikings.
La Jolla bounced back with a 5-4 overtime win over Eastlake on March 16, with Spencer Robertson scoring the game-winning goal in the extra frame. Tobias Felback scored two goals and had an assist.
Girls lacrosseLa Jolla High School secured a 12-0 win over Cathedral Catholic on March 14. Stephi Kalkstein scored four goals for the Vikings, and Bri Wright added three.
La Jolla eased to a 15-6 win over neighborhood rival The Bishop’s School on March 16. Wright scored five goals for the Vikings and Hannah Novick added four tallies. Mackenzie Gloven scored twice, and Mia Cohen and Kalkstein each scored once.
For Bishop’s, Riley Sexton scored three goals and had three assists. Haley Geier, Claire Halter and Daryl Griglak also scored for the Knights.
La Jolla Country Day fell to Helix, 12-8, on March 15.
Boys golfLa Jolla High School edged St. Augustine, 191-194, at Riverwalk Golf Course on March 12. Ian Perlman was the medalist, carding a 1-under-par 35.
The Bishop’s School beat Santa Fe Christian, 226-237, at La Jolla Country Club on March 12. Danny Choi had the low score, a 5-over-par 40.
La Jolla Country Day eased past Escondido Charter, 209-238, at Woods Valley Country Club on March 13.
Country Day edged La Jolla High School, 214-217, at Del Mar Country Club on March 14. The Torreys’ Connor Alan-Lee was the medalist, shooting an even-par 36.
The Torreys beat San Dieguito Academy, 200-213, at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club on March 15. Alan-Lee was again the medalist, shooting 1-over-par 37.
Boys tennisLa Jolla Country Day fell to Poway, 11-7, on March 14. The Torreys toppled Santa Fe Christian, 10-8, on March 15.
La Jolla High School edged Rancho Bernardo on March 15. The teams tied in sets, but La Jolla prevailed, 74-69, in games.
Boys volleyballLa Jolla High School fell to Westview, 25-6, 25-10, 25-18, on March 13.
The Vikings rebounded with a 25-11, 25-7, 25-13 win over Clairemont on March 15. Andrew Heap contributed 22 assists and six aces.
