Week in Sports: LJ lacrosse nets coach 100th win

Boys lacrosse

La Jolla High School toppled University City, 8-2, on May 5. Matt O’Hara led the way with four goals for the Vikings.

The Vikings added a 15-6 win over Patrick Henry on May 8 that was coach Matt Rosenberg’s 100th victory at La Jolla High. O’Hara led the Vikings again with five goals. Mike Soumekh scored three goals, and Tyler Bourgeois added two scores. James Cochrane made 10 saves as the Vikings improved to 13-3.

La Jolla Country Day fell to San Dieguito Academy, 7-6, on May 6. The Torreys came out on the wrong end of a 6-5 game against Santa Fe Christian on May 9.

The Bishop’s School toppled Santa Fe Christian, 8-2, on May 5. The Knights eased past Canyon Crest Academy, 14-1, on May 8.

Girls lacrosse

La Jolla High fell to Rancho Bernardo, 15-10, on May 4 and then dropped a 6-5 game to Patrick Henry on May 8.

Country Day fell to San Dieguito Academy, 7-5, on May 6 when Ariana Elegado scored twice for the Torreys.

Bishop’s fell to Santa Fe Christian, 7-6, on May 6 as Sophia Muller scored two goals.

The Knights responded with a 12-5 victory over Canyon Crest Academy on May 8. Muller and Elyse Tierney each scored three goals.

Baseball

La Jolla topped University City, 3-1, on May 5. Patrick Christensen pitched a complete game to earn the win, and Bradley Zimmer had a pinch-hit single to put the Vikings up for good.

Two days later the Vikings fell to University City, 8-5. Patrick Ouelette pitched six scoreless relief innings and went 3-for-4 with a double.

Bishop’s edged city rival Country Day, 10-8, on May 6. Cade Sears went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs for the Knights.

The Knights beat High Tech High, 8-6, on May 8 when Demian Tschirn went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the win. Connor Gerhart had three RBIs for the Torreys. Country Day dropped a 13-0 decision to Horizon Christian on May 8.

Softball

La Jolla fell to University City, 18-0, on May 5.

Bishop’s dropped a 1-0 decision to Horizon Christian on May 6, but rallied for a 6-3 win over Mountain Empire on May 8, scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Natalie Camarda, Briana Martinez and Yessica Palmer each drove in two runs.

Boys volleyball

La Jolla beat Mira Mesa, 25-17, 25-23, 25-13, on May 5. The Vikings swept Scripps Ranch, 26-24, 25-19, 25-21, on May 7.

Bishop’s topped Tri-City Christian, 25-27, 25-14, 23-25, 25-14, on May 5, but fell to Canyon Crest Academy, three games to one, on May 7.

Boys tennis

Country Day beat Francis Parker on May 5, winning in games, 79-71, after tying at nine sets apiece. The Torreys fell to Canyon Crest Academy, 10-8, on May 6.
