Week in Sports: Bishop’s softball team has perfect 3-0 week
SoftballThe Bishop’s School secured a 10-0 win over Escondido Charter on April 2 in the Torrey Invitational. The Knights exploded for six runs in the third inning.
Bishop’s continued its hot streak with an 8-0 win over Capistrano Valley Christian on April 4, scoring all eight of its runs in the fifth inning. The Knights toppled Canyon Crest Academy, 9-2, later the same day, securing their fourth straight win.
La Jolla High School fell to Cathedral Catholic, 13-0, on March 31. The Vikings dropped a 16-0 decision to University City on April 2.
La Jolla Country Day fell to Holtville, 7-3, on April 4.
BaseballLa Jolla High School fell to Kearney, 7-5, in the City Conference tournament on April 2. Victor Rangel had two hits for the Vikings, and teammate Dustin Oulette drove in two runs.
The Bishop’s School rolled to a 7-2 victory over Maranatha Christian on March 31.
The Knights topped Maranatha again on April 1, winning by an 18-1 margin. Shane Dillon pitched a complete game, and A.J. Chedrick went 4-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.
La Jolla High School rolled to a 9-7 victory over Carlsbad on March 31. Taylor Bourgeios and Mike Soumekh each scored three goals.
The Vikings topped Westview, 13-7, on April 2.
Soumekh led the way with six goals, and Bourgeois added three.
La Jolla Country Day fell to Francis Parker, 14-2, on April 3.
Bishop’s edged Torrey Pines, 7-6, on March 31. The Knights maintained their momentum with a 12-8 victory over Santa Fe Christian on April 4.
Girls’ lacrosseLa Jolla High School beat Scripps Ranch, 8-6, on March 31. The Vikings fell to Poway, 13-7, on April 3.
Bishop’s toppled San Dieguito Academy, 9-8, on April 1. Megan Murray and Elyse
Tierney each scored two goals for the Knights, and Tierney netted the go-ahead goal with 40 seconds to play. Goalie Dana Christionson made nine saves, including a clutch stop in the game’s final minute.
The Knights continued to roll with a 15-5 win over Helix on April 4. Murray and Sophia Muller led Bishop’s with four goals apiece as the Knights improved to 6-2 this season.
SwimmingBishop’s boys edged Coronado, 86-84 on April 3. David Higginson won the 500-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke for the Knights.
The Knights’ girls’ team toppled Coronado, 100-80, on the same day. Andrea Basaraba was a double winner in the 200 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, and Sam Allen won both the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.
Boys’ volleyballLa Jolla High School lost to St. Augustine, 21-25, 25-10, 25-19, 24-26, 15-12, on March 31.
