Water main break repaired in Pacific Beach

Two cast-iron water mains broke today in Pacific Beach, affecting 88 San Diego water customers until all service was restored this afternoon, a city utility official said.

The first pipe broke about 12:30 a.m. beneath Garnet Avenue, between Everts and Fanuel streets, leaving 38 businesses without water and shutting down that section of Garnet, said Arian Collins of San Diego’s Public Utilities Department.

A second water main broke about 2 a.m. along the 1800 block of Hornblend, where about 50 residences remained without water service.

Collins said water supply trucks were parked in the area so residents could fill buckets to use in their homes. He said the road remained open to traffic during repairs.
