‘War Machine’ pleads guilty to two felony assault charges

A mixed martial arts fighter who swept bottles at a female bartender and punched a security guard during a melee at another bar pleaded guilty Thursday to two felony charges of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury.

Jon Koppenhaver — who legally changed his name to “War Machine” — will be sentenced to a year in jail on Aug. 12.

The fighter was on probation for a misdemeanor assault conviction from 2008 when the assaults occurred in February and March of this year, said Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon.

Judge David Danielsen ordered the 28-year-old defendant to report to jail July 16.
