Volleyball players tally post-season honors
La Jolla High School varsity volleyball players, who made it to the CIF title game this season only to lose to Cathedral Catholic in a hard-fought four-game match, have been tallying post-season honors. Among them was senior John Walsh who won the 2010 CIF Sportsmanship Player of the Game Award for the second time, having also won it in 2008. He was also named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association VCA All American second team.
Coach Dave Jones noted that Walsh had 526 digs this season alone, setting a new San Diego Section CIF record by more than 100 digs for a single season. He also broke the all-time career record for digs in San Diego.
On top of that Walsh was named to the Hall of Champions First Team All Section and his teammates Jack Latta and Max Greenberg made the second team.
SD-CIF All Division III Team included Walsh, Latta and Greenberg on the first team and Matt Palatella, Blake Chadwick and Kyle Gutstadt were on the second team.
Walsh and Greenberg also made the All Western League first team and Latta the second team.
