‘Voices’ lauds judge

The Honorable Susan Huguenor, presiding judge of San Diego’s Juvenile Court, challenged guests at the annual Voices for Children breakfast, Dec. 15, to think about what made them successful and how they could re-create those factors for foster kids.

In her audience at the University Club downtown were other judges, juvenile court personnel and Voices for Children donors and staff. Voices for Children is a private, nonprofit group that works to fund the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) who speak for and represent abused, neglected or abandoned children in court situations. CASAs, 500 strong, also provide emotional comfort as they guide their case children through the complex foster care system.

At the breakfast, Voices for Children presented Huguenor with an award in recognition of her “inspiration and support” during six years as presiding judge in Juvenile Court. Her tenure ends in January.
