Police have identified the bicyclist who was injured Tuesday when he crashed his bicycle on a La Jolla street as a 33-year-old Virginia man.
Monica Munoz, San Diego Police Department public information officer, identified the man as Frederick Joseph Legaspi.
Legaspi had been riding to the north in the 7300 block of Via
Capri when he fell off his 10-speed bicycle for unknown reasons shortly after noon, according to San Diego police.
“Passing motorists stopped to render assistance and found that he was unconscious and having convulsions,’' SDPD Sgt. Art Campa said Tuesday after the accident.
“We do not have a cause,” said Munoz Wednesday. “It is not known whether he crashed, and as a result had a seizure, or whether he had a seizure which caused the crash. No other individuals or any other vehicle was involved.”
Medics took the man to a hospital for treatment of severe head injuries. An update on his condition was not available.
