Vikings’ volleyball team shows winning ways
La Jolla High
The Vikings (17-7, 5-2) continue to win this season, notching two victories in three matches last week. Against St. Augustine, the team won 3-1 and against Scripps Ranch they won 3-0. On the season, Kyle Gutstadt leads the team with 161 kills while Matt Palatella leads the team with 55 blocks and 22 aces.Up next are three games this week against University City, St. Augustine and Parker.
Girls lacrosse
The Vikings (3-6 overall, 1-2 league) notched two wins last week against St. Catharine’s (Ontario) 13-2 and Henry 11-4. Up next is a rematch with Scripps Ranch on April 30.Softball
Last week, the Vikings (0-6 overall, 0-1 league) dropped a game 22-2 against Cathedral. Up next is a game at Clairemont.Baseball
The Vikings (6-8-1 overall, 1-1 league) split a pair of games against Coronado, losing 4-2 at home, but winning 7-4 on the road. Kevin Usselman has been one of the standouts so far, hitting .400 in 55 plate appearances. He’s also got 10 RBI and four doubles on the season. Up next are two games this week against Point Loma as well as a game at home versus Parker.Boys lacrosse

The Knights (5-3 overall) lost their only game, a road match against Santa Fe Christian, 11-9. The team is now 1-2 in Coastal League play and next take on Pacific Ridge on April 28 at home.Softball
The Knights (7-6 overall) went 2-1 last week with wins over La Jolla Country Day and Tri-City Christian, 10-0 and 13-9, respectively. The team has been led at the plate this season by Alex Mejia (.485 batting average), Megan Keiffer (.484) and Briana Martinez (.455). This week, the Knights play Horizon and Mountain Empire.Baseball
The Knights (10-5-1 overall, 1-0 league) split a pair of games last week, topping Horizon 10-6 and losing to Kearny 7-3. This week the team takes on La Jolla Country Day and Guajome Park Academy. This season, the Knights have been led on the mound by Connor Sears, who has three wins.Boys lacrosse

The Torreys (14-3 overall, 1-0 league) keep on winning, defeating Parker and Christian Life Academy by a combined 29-3 last week. The streak now stands at eight in a row. Against Christian Life Academy, 13 players scored a run while Matt Burzette had three doubles to go with four RBI. This week, the team plays Bishop’s and Horizon.Boys golf
The Torreys returned from spring break with a 207 team score against Canyon Crest Academy. Junior Anthony Paolucci carded a 34, which included two birdies and an eagle. The team also played Bishop’s last week, shooting a team score of 210. The Knights, however, had to forfeit as they only had four players. Senior Jake Hersfield took medalist honors against Bishop’s, shooting a 38. Sophomore Forrest Kim was only one shot off the lead with a 39.
