Vikings split games in holiday tournament

Boys’ basketball

La Jolla High School topped Bingham of South Jordan, Utah, 51-41, in the MaxPreps Holiday Classic at Torrey Pines High on Dec. 29. John Walsh scored 13 points, and Jack Latta added 12.

La Jolla fell to Temecula Valley, 62-52, in the same tournament on Dec. 30. Latta scored 17 points, and Alec Guisti added 13.

The Bishop’s School secured a 68-60 win over Buckley of Sherman Oaks in the Las Vegas tournament on Dec. 29. Malik Love led the way with 26 points and 13 rebounds, and David Stotelmyre added 18 points and 10 rebounds.

The Knights fell to Brethren Christian of Huntington Beach, 66-62, in the same tournament on Dec. 30. Stotelmyre totaled 26 points and 10 rebounds, and Love had 18 and 11.

Bishop’s dropped a 56-53 decision to San Diego High on Jan. 3.

La Jolla Country Day fell to Katella of Anaheim, 56-53, on Dec. 29. Ryan Watt led the Torreys with 17 points, and Frankie Bamford added 15.

Girls’ basketball

La Jolla High School fell to San Marcos, 39-34, in the Excalibur tournament on Dec. 29. The Vikings bounced back for a 39-36 win over Serra on Dec. 30.

La Jolla dropped a 55-27 decision to Carlsbad on Dec. 31.

La Jolla Country Day fell to Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland, 58-51, on Dec. 29 at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

The Torreys suffered a 56-52 defeat to Memphis (Tenn.) Central in the same tournament on Dec. 30.

The Bishop’s School suffered a 78-43 loss to Mater Dei of Santa Ana on Dec. 30.

Boys’ soccer

La Jolla Country Day topped Ramona, 2-0, in the Oceanside Nautical Cup on Dec. 29. Zach Wolfenzon scored both goals for the Torreys. Mical Bailey registered the shutout.

The Torreys fell to Servite of Anaheim, 5-0, later that day.

On Dec. 30, Country Day fell to La Costa Canyon, 7-1. Hunter Khaleghi scored for the Torreys.
