Video contest focuses on Constitution

Area students are invited to participate in a documentary film contest presented by C-SPAN and Time Warner Cable.

The competition is offering middle and high school students the opportunity to create a video documentary about the importance of the U.S. Constitution, according to a press release from State Sen. Mark Wyland of Carlsbad.

C-SPAN will air the top submissions and award $50,000 in prizes.

According to a recent survey, only 7 percent of American eighth graders can identify the three branches of government and fewer than half know the purpose of the Bill of Rights, the release noted
