VA employees pack food and toy boxes for families in need

Employees of the Veterans Administration and Metropolitan Transit System will brighten the holiday season Wednesday for needy families.

VA workers will pack 425 boxes with food and toys for needy veterans and their families around San Diego County for their 23rd annual “Care & Share” drive.

The contents of the boxes will be customized to fit the needs of recipient families, and will include items like canned and boxed foods, gift certificates for turkeys, perishable foods and toys for children.

The employees raised money for the event with bake sales, conducted a food drive and received gifts from vendors.

Workers with the MTS, which runs the trolleys and buses, will deliver bicycles and helmets to all 86 first-grade students at Logan Elementary School.

The MTS employees have made similar donations to schools for six years.
