Utilities undergrounding continues

Despite the chaos the work is causing in La Jolla, officials say progress is being made on undergrounding utilities in a number of concurrent projects that are part of a long-term citywide program.

“One of the first projects in La Jolla in the Beach-Barber Tract that’s been under way now for a couple of years will be finished by next fall (2010),” said Nathan Bruner, the city’s undergrounding program manager. “We have another project on La Mesa Drive up in the Muirlands that will be finished by the end of the year. Another one on Soledad Mountain Road will be done shortly after the beginning of the year.”

It is estimated that SDG&E will complete all cabling work shortly after the first of the year. As soon as the underground lines are energized, SDG&E will begin the customer-cutovers to the new underground system.

Those not satisfied or pleased with the work that was done on their property or street can call Kara Palmer at (619) 533-3841.
