Union-Tribune nabs OC Register exec for editor

An executive at the Orange County Register was Thursday named editor of The San Diego Union-Tribune, effective March 8.

Jeff Light has been with the Register since 1993, most recently as vice president of interactive. Previously, he was deputy editor in charge of the newspaper’s Web site.

He replaces Karin Winner, who announced her retirement in December after 15 years at the helm of the Union-Tribune’s newsroom.

“Jeff has demonstrated success both in print and online journalism — and he’s passionate about it,” Ed Moss, the Union-Tribune’s publisher, said in a statement.

“People have heard us talk about our entrepreneurial and innovative spirit; Jeff embodies this, with boundless energy, which will be critical as we continue to look for ways to offer more value to our readers with news and information that impacts their lives.”
