UCSD getting ready for 5K for Melanoma
UCSD will host the 18th annual Bruce Gorder 5K Walk for Melanoma on campus this Saturday in memory of Bruce Gorder, who lost his fight against malignant melanoma in 1992 at the age of 37.
The event raises funds for melanoma research at UCSDs Moores Cancer Center and is designed to build awareness for prevention and early detection of the disease.
After Gorder’s death, his father Charles and family helped organize a 5K walk to support melanoma research. Since that time, the event has raised more than $1.2 million for the Moores Center, the region’s only Comprehensive Cancer Center designated by the National Cancer Center Institute.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the Moores Cancer Center, 3855 Health Sciences Drive on the UC San Diego east campus. The walk will begin immediately a welcome at 9 a.m. Participants will receive a free event T-shirt while supplies last, and a prize drawing entry for giveaways.
The registration fee is $30. To register, visit https://act.ucsd.edu/gorder-walk or call (858) 534-6797.
