UCSD celebrates Founder’s Day with look to the future, afternoon of celebration
Founder’s Celebration activities at UCSD kick off Thursday with a presentation by Suresh Subramani, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs, who will share some of of the campus’s future plans, including faculty recruitment efforts.
He will be followed by a panel discussion, “Flash Forward from 50: A Sneak Preview of UC San Diego’s New Directions in Research and Discovery.”
Free and open to the public, the event will be held in the new Medical Education and Telemedicine Learning Building, with doors opening at 4 p.m. and the program at 5 p.m.
Speakers include Dean Mark Thiemens, Division of Physical Sciences; Dean Steve A. Kay, Division of Biological Sciences; Dean Peter Cowhey, School of International Relations and Pacific Studies, and Associate Vice Chancellor George Tynan, Research.
Then on Friday, Founders Day will be marked in UCSD’s Town Square, beginning at 11:30 am. A short program with a welcome by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, and remarks by faculty, alumni, community and students representatives will be followed by a celebration including free food from a variety of San Diego’s best food trucks, music by the Pep Band, booths and prizes.
