UCSD begins writers’ readings

A new writing series at UCSD will present a reading by author Stuart Dybek, 4:30 p.m. Nov. 3 in the Visual Arts Facility Performance Space.

Dybek is the author of three best-selling books of fiction “I Sailed With Magellan,” “The Coast of Chicago,” and “Childhood and Other Neighborhoods.” Dybek has also published two collections of poetry: “Streets in Their Own Ink” and “Brass Knuckles.” Among his many accolades, in 2007 Dybek was awarded a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.

Next up, visiting poet Monica Youn, of “Ignatz” (2010) and “Barter” (2003) will read at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 10. Youn lives in New York. For her work on “Ignatz,” she has been awarded the Witter Bynner Fellowship from the Library of Congress, and residencies from the MacDowell Colony, the Corporation of Yaddo, and the Rockefeller Foundation. She received her undergraduate degree from Princeton, a Masters degree in English from Oxford, where she was a Rhodes Scholar, and her law degree from Yale. She was a Stegner Fellow at Stanford University and has taught creative writing at Columbia University and Pratt Institute. She currently works as an attorney at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law, focusing on election law issues.
