For the fifth consecutive year, UCSD won the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Commissioner’s Cup, it was announced on Thursday at the CCAA’s Executive Council Meetings in La Jolla.

The Commissioner’s Cup is presented in association with Apple Computer and is awarded to the CCAA member institution with the highest aggregate ranking in eight of the CCAA’s 13 championship sport offerings. The winning institution receives a laptop computer and glass trophy. UCSD totaled 19 points to finish ahead of Chico State, which finished second with 20 points. It was the closest finish in the five-year history of the program.

“I’m really pleased and excited to continue this tradition,” UCSD Director of Athletics Earl W. Edwards said. “Being the best overall program in the conference is something in which everyone at UC San Diego takes a lot of pride, particularly given the top-to-bottom strength of the CCAA.”
