Two earthquakes rattle East County

A 4.4-magnitude earthquake rattled the far reaches of East County early Thursday, 25 minutes after a 3.7-magnitude temblor shook the same area.

The first quake struck at 1:59 a.m. about 10 miles southeast of Ocotillo, according to a preliminary report from the U.S. Geological Survey. It was followed at 2:26 a.m. by a quake about 11 miles southeast of Ocotillo.
