Traffic snarled heading into La Jolla; streetlights flashing red

Following yesterday’s power outage, traffic this morning was snarled and backed up out to Interstate-5 on La Jolla Parkway heading toward the throat intersection.

It was estimated at 9 a.m. Friday that it was taking approximately a very long time — some said as much as an hour — to get into the Village of La Jolla off the freeway.

Numerous traffic lights throughout La Jolla and Pacific Beach were also blinking red this morning.

“City shops are working on the recycling of the power grid, which automatically trips streetlights into 4-way flash, that’s what’s happening,” said San Diego Police Lt. Rick O’Hanlon. “City shops are resetting them when they can get to them.”

O’Hanlon added if intersections with 4-way red flashes become problematic, officers will be sent out to direct traffic.

Sherri Lightner advised as alterntatives taking La Jolla Boulevard through Bird Rock or by using La Jolla Village Drive to reach La Jolla Shores Drive if you are headed to La Jolla Shores.
