Toy drive under way for area’s foster kids

Promises2Kids, formerly the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation, kicked-off its annual Give From Your Heart Holiday Gift Drive asking San Diegans to donate new, unwrapped gifts for abused, abandoned and neglected children of San Diego through Dec. 14.

Promises2Kids volunteers placed more than 300 marked collection bins at office buildings, schools, supermarkets and restaurants throughout San Diego County to receive the donations.

The campaign will end with a “Live Drive” from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Kearny Mesa Wal-Mart on Shawline Street.

Suggested gifts include toys, board games, dolls, books, clothing, gift cards, electronics, sporting equipment, DVDs, or arts and crafts supplies. Items for teens, ages 13 and up, are also needed.

The gifts will be collected and sorted by Promises2Kids volunteers, then delivered by social workers to foster children during the week of Dec. 21.

Volunteers are still needed. Go to www.promises2kids.
