Town Council director steps down Sept. 30
Ron Jones, La Jolla Town Council’s executive director the past six months, will leave his position at the end of the month to pursue other opportunities.
“I came on board with a six-month contract,” said Jones. “Our town council needed a PR facelift and a slight course correction. In the first months, I was able to co-produce an HBO film premiere in advance of the U.S. Open at Scripps Park, turnaround the serious membership bleed, pay the rent myself and put money in the treasury.”
He said he did it “while putting my production company and recording studio on hold. I absolutely enjoyed the challenge.”
Darcy Ashley, town council president, said the executive director position is being “reinvented” to make it more office-friendly and more responsive to growing technical needs in the information age.
Ashley added the town council is very close to hiring someone to fill the new office manager position.
Jones’ last day will be Sept. 30.
