La Jolla Town Council decided to reschedule its first Community Carnival to sometime in Spring 2015, to focus its energies on its recent party and farewell reception for the crew of the USS La Jolla submarine, which will decommissioned in the near future, trustees said (look for photos from that event in the Oct. 30 edition of La Jolla Light). The carnival was initially planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25 at the La Jolla Rec Center.
In an e-mail explaining the decision, Town Council Past President Cindy Greatrex wrote, “We are definitely doing the Carnival! The funds have already been raised. I have the permit and CEQA filed; it will just need to go through Traffic & Transportation. It is going to be at the Rec Center (the Rec Board has approved this).”
The La Jolla Rec Center, however, will host its annual Halloween Festival 1-4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25 on the grounds at 615 Prospect St. Activities include face painting, balloon art, carnival games, arts & crafts, a cake walk, pony rides and snack bar. Tickets are 25-cents. Costume contests will be held every 30 minutes according to age — Ages 2 years and younger at 1:30 p.m. Ages 3-4 at 2 p.m. Ages 5-6 at 2:30 p.m. Ages 7-8 at 3 p.m. Ages 9-10 at 3:30 p.m.
