Torreys clinch lacrosse title
Boys lacrosseLa Jolla Country Day clinched the Coastal League title when they won at Bishop’s Monday night 11-7. Details were not available at press time.
SoftballThe Torreys (16-4, 5-2) are still playing well, and heading to the team’s season finale, are eyeing a deep playoff run, according to head coach Corinne Brunn. Last week, the team notched another impressive win, this time a 12-0 victory over Santa Fe Academy. This week the Torreys will finish out the regular season with one game against San Dieguito Academy.
Girls lacrosseThe Torreys (3-13, 0-7) finished their season on a sour four-game losing streak. Last week, the team suffered two losses against Canyon Crest Academy and San Dieguito Academy.
BaseballLast week, the Torreys (19-7, 4-4) split a pair of games, losing to a scrappy Horizon team 9-7, but bounced back against Canyon Crest Academy for a 6-2 conference win to end the season with a .500 record in Coastal-South play. Against CCA, the Torreys were led by Dustin Hughes, who head coach John Edman said was “untouchable on the mound.” Also, Matt Burzette came through with a big RBI single, and Alex Guenette ended up with two hits to lead the effort.
This week the team will face San Diego Jewish Academy and Scripps Ranch on Thursday in preparation for the playoffs next week.
Track and FieldThe Torreys boys’ team cruised to a Coastal-South Conference championship winning the 10-team meet with a whopping 137 points (2nd place canyon Crest Academy scored 72 points). The team was led by senior Dennis Roth winner of three events and junior Sage Hagstrom who took two golds and two silver medals.
SoftballThe Knights (10-11, 2-5) split a pair of games last week, falling 17-6 to Mountain Empire, but then turning around the next day and defeating Mountain Empire, 3-0. The team will close out the regular season this week with one game on the road at Canyon Crest Academy.
Girls lacrosseThe Knights (10-5, 4-3) are set for the postseason after finishing the regular season with a split last week. After topping Santa Fe Academy 15-10, the Knights dropped a close 10-8 game at home against Canyon Crest Academy.
BaseballThe Knights drove their losing streak to four games last week after falling short to both Parker and Santa Fe Academy, 8-5 and 10-5, respectively. This week the team will play the regular-season finale at Canyon Crest Academy.
On the season, Chris Ludwig continues to lead the team with a .379 batting average to go with a .667 slugging percentage.
Boys volleyballThe Knights (20-5, 8-2) finished the regular season with another win, this time a 3-1 victory over Tri-City Christian, pushing the team’s winning streak to eight. This week the team plays CIF semifinal action Tuesday night. If the Knights win, they will play in the the finals Saturday.
LA JOLLA HIGH
Girls lacrosseThe Vikings (7-11, 3-5) ended the regular season on a downer, losing 13-9 to Coronado. However, the team did manage to win three of it’s last four games, including a 14-9 win over Serra last week.
BaseballThe Vikings (7-16-1, 2-8) continued their losing streak, which now stands at eight games as they lost a pair to Mission Bay, 4-1 and 6-5, respectively.
Junior outfielder Jake Linsky put La Jolla up 1-0 with his first career home run in the first game of the week. However, walks and errors did in the Vikings as they surrendered four unearned runs and the Buccaneers triumphed 4-1.
Boys lacrosseThe Vikings (8-8, 5-3) finished the regular season with a winning conference record. Last week, the team blew past Serra 14-6, but lost a nail biter, 8-7, at Coronado.
Boys volleyballThe Vikings (24-13, 9-3) will head to the postseason on a hot streak. Last week, the team topped both Scripps Ranch and Mar Vista to push the team’s winning streak to three matches.
