Tikul Coastal Mexican at 1250 Prospect St., in La Jolla, a restaurant which opened a couple of months ago where Pasquale on Prospect had been for nine years previously, closed its doors Sept. 3.

“My husband Alberto and I opened Tikul Coastal Mexican with the concept of offering a high-quality, modern Mexican cuisine in a beautiful ambiance with great Latin music,” said Renee Perez. “We are proud as we feel we accomplished our goal and shared a bit of our Mexican culture with La Jolla.”

In the end, Perez said she and her husband made a personal decision based on family and time commitments.

“We also need to focus our attention on our established restaurants in Puerto Vallarta,” she said. “We hope to see our new friends around town or in Mexico. We will always fondly remember this as the summer of Tikul.”

Perez said she and her husband, who was a chef and a musician for Tikul, signed a lease in April and opened for business July 1.

She said they will refocus their attention on their two restaurants in Mexico, both well-established, fine-dining establishments, one of which has been in operation for 25 years.

The Perez family will continue to reside in La Jolla.
