Share

Three doctoral programs offered at UCSD are ranked first in the country, and 60 percent of UCSD’s programs are among the top 20 programs in their fields nationwide in the National Research Council’s comprehensive assessment of the quality of more than 5,000 doctoral programs in 62 fields at 212 U.S. research institutions.

The NRC Data-Based Assessment of Research-Doctorate Programs is a highly regarded “gold standard” rating of doctoral programs and faculty scholarship, provides a more comprehensive assessment of doctoral programs than current popular rankings.

These programs, along with their disciplinary areas, are ranked best in the U.S.:

Programs ranked number one nationwide:

  • Biological Sciences: Biology/Integrated Biology/Integrated Biomedical Sciences
  • Bioengineering: Biomedical Engineering/Bioengineering
  • Scripps Institution of Oceanography: Oceanography/Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology

Other programs ranked in the top five nationwide:

  • Biomedical Sciences (2nd): Biology/Integrated Biology/Integrated Biomedical Sciences.
