Thieves steal cash register from La Jolla deli

Deli-icious at 1237 Prospect St., Suite J, in the International Shops gallery, was burglarized early Monday morning and a cash register containing an undisclosed amount of money was taken.

“The call came in at 6:10 a.m. from a witness who was walking by and saw a door in the business wide open,” said Det. Gary Hassen, senior public information officer for the San Diego Police Department. “No one was seen or heard, but the witness could see there was heavy damage from the outside.”

Jeff Webb, owner of the 17-year-old delicatessen, said when he came in at 6:45 a.m. the door to his business had been ripped open and that his cash register had been stolen.” They took a crowbar to the door and broke the lock,” he said.

Webb said the cash register itself was worth almost $400. He added police were present when he arrived. “They were right on top of it,” he said.

Webb said his business has security cameras. “Hopefully, when they go through the cameras, they’ll be able to see who it was,” he said.
