What brought you to La Jolla?

I grew up in the Midwest and moved out to San Diego for college. After college, I lived in Escondido, Rancho Bernardo and then Poway. But none of the locations gave me the neighborhood village-feel I was looking for until I moved to La Jolla, and I like the energy that the ocean provides.

What makes La Jolla special to you?

La Jolla is a unique city, and that is what I think makes it so special. It offers the simplicity of a Midwest town, yet has the sophistication of many of the world’s finest cities to which I have traveled.

Who or what inspires you?

People who have worked hard for what they have achieved. I always admire the underdog who has had to work twice as hard to get where they are.

If you hosted a dinner party for eight, whom (living or deceased) would you invite?

Ronald Regan, Richard Branson, Ralph Lauren, Tiger Woods, Will Ferrell, a sommelier, Michael Eisner and Nelson Mandela.

What is your motto or philosophy of life?

If you care about people, good things will happen around you.
