The La Jolla Kiwanis Club recently awarded ten local fifth graders with the honorable “Hope of America” award. The awards are presented each year to one child from each fifth grade class at La Jolla’s three public elementary schools. This year’s awards were presented by the principals of La Jolla Elementary, Bird Rock Elementary and Torrey Pines Elementary at a special Kiwanis luncheon with the recipients and their families on May 23.

“Hope of America is our way of honoring the best and brightest of our young citizen scholars from each of the three local elementary schools,” said Kiwanis member and Hope of America Chairperson Don Hodges. “Each of the 10 award recipients have been recognized by their teachers and peers as positive role models. They have demonstrated exceptional leadership, moral character, ethical conduct and outstanding academic accomplishment.”

Each of the award recipients received an engraved plaque to commemorate the honor and a US Savings Bond.
