The U.S. women’s water polo team emerged as champions in the FINA World League Super Finals held at Coggan Family Aquatic Complex last week.
It defeated Australia, 12-11, on Saturday in the finals with its second penalty shootout victory over the Australians. Eight of the 24 matches in the eight-team international event were decided by penalty shootouts, reported the FINA website. Betsy Armstrong, the U.S. goalkeeper, was named MVP.
Greece beat Russia to take home the bronze medal; China defeated Hungary for fifth place; and the Netherlands took seventh with a win over Canada. For more, go to
