Taste at the Cove supports sports foundation
Scripps Park was packed with celebrities and star gazers on Sept. 3 for the annual Taste at the Cove, benefiting the San Diego Sports Medicine Foundation. Each year, the foundation provides medical care for injured youths with no access to care. It also organizes injury clinics for high school athletes and educational programs.
Guests were treated to food from the region’s top restaurants and a runway fashion show.
Each year, the foundation salutes someone in the medical profession who has contributed to the effort as well as a local athlete. The 2009 honorees were Marshall Faulk, a star running back at San Diego State and former NFL rookie of the year who is a member of the Rams 28 Club, a program for inner city youths. In 2008, his Marshall Faulk Foundation moved to San Diego, where Faulk now lives.
Also honored was Jerry Hizon, M.D., one of the Chargers’ team physicians and founder of the OUCH Sports Medical center in Temecula who has provided medical coverage to a wide range of community and prep teams. He also serves as an assistant clinical professor in sports medicine at UCSD.
