Eyebrow trendsfor 2012 are shaping up to be an even greater departure from the high-arched look of the past, according to a recent style news report from the
- Unlike the thin, heavily tweezed arches of former decades, today’s brows are moving increasingly in favor of a no-arch look. A study in the
Clinical Plastic Surgery journalsuggests that, before long, arched brows may be a thing of the past – and that this trend may in turn have an impact on patient interest in

The Post reports that the so-called “ideal eyebrow” has been making its way gradually lower towards the eye over the past 60 years. The result? A look that is, in fact, increasingly masculine. Researchers at the University of Southern California recently conducted a study in which researchers examined the eyebrow trends reflected in images of models and movie stars from 1946 to the present day. They found that brow trends tended to favor fuller, lower and flatter styles over the years; and according to plastic surgery industry experts, the explanation lies in society’s increasing fluid view of gender dynamics. Mark Soldin of the British Association for Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons says in an interview with the Independent that he believes the low-brow trend “has to do with the increasing equality of the sexes,” since “upward curvature of the eyebrows was considered to be an attractive feminine feature in the past.”
It only takes a quick glance at today’s fashion icons and film stars to recognize the aesthetic shift in eyebrow trends over the past decade; and whether the impetus lies in changing views on gender equality or not, it would seem that, at least for now, full, flat brows are here to stay. Those struggling to fill out overplucked brows may turn to hair transplant surgery to update their look, while others seeking to enhance their features may develop an interest in plastic surgery solutions like
