Tabu Sushi Lounge opens with party for friends, family
Part of La Jolla’s charm is its eclectic mix of shops and restaurants throughout the village. Adding to the mix is the new Tabu Sushi Lounge that opened Valentine’s weekend at 7734 Girard, across the street from Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Friends and family members came out to support the new business venture, created by partners Pablo Aguilar, Andy Sliuman and Assim Shammami who met while working in downtown San Diego at The Hard Rock Cafe and the Ivy Hotel. The trio said they decided to open Tabu in downtown La Jolla because much of the clientele at their Del Mar location were coming from La Jolla. They have a third sushi lounge in Rancho San Diego.
“We’re offering both good food and good night life here,” said Aguilar. “It’s a great vibe, mellow, no cover charge, a class place to unwind and relax and meet up with friends.” Shammami added that their goal is to fit into the community, bring in new business and have happy, satisfied customers who feel comfortable stopping by.
Tabu is open for lunch and dinner, 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. On Sunday patrons will be treated to smooth jazz and easy listening standards for a more sophisticated atmosphere. The bar features signature drinks, as well as fruit-infused sake made in-house.
