Surf Diva Boutique in La Jolla Shores has been nominated for the Surf Industry Manufacturer’s Association (SIMA) Women’s Retailer of the Year and Breakthrough Retailer of the year.

It’s a huge honor for Surf Diva and everyone who has supported us along the way,” said Coco Tihanyi, Surf Diva’s co-owner and retail buyer. “Besides being the original surf school for women, we feel that our most important achievement is how our customer feels when she walks through our door. She immediately knows that she is in a girl surfing sanctuary, owned and operated by women, for women.”
Surf Diva features a unique mix of beach fashion with women’s surf apparel such as Hurley, Quiksilver, Roxy, Vans, DC, and Sanuk as well as lines such as Hinano, Surf Monkey, L* Space, Vitamin A, Nixon, Toms, Ocean Minded, Desigual and Indah.
Surf Diva also has a strong community commitment, supporting environmental and local programs. This year, Surf Diva became the leading retailer for the San Diego Junior Lifeguard uniform program. “Working with the community to make our beaches cleaner and safer is a priority for us,” said Coco.
The SIMA Image Awards nomination is given to the specialty retailer that featured the best selection, product mix and merchandising in the women’s category between Jan. 1 and Sept. 1, 2011.
Surf Diva Surf School was founded by San Diegan Izzy Tihanyi in 1996. She and her twin sister, Coco, were both awarded one of Inc. Magazines “Top 26 Entrepreneurs” Surf Diva is considered the reference of women’s surfing in the action sports industry and offers surfing and standup paddleboard (SUP) lessons year-round for women and men, girls and boys.

The Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) is the official working trade association of more than 300 surf industry suppliers.
