Supervisors OK pay hike for non-union county workers

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize a 2 percent raise for about 1,500 non-union San Diego County employees.

The raises, which take effect July 1, are intended to bring into line the pay of non-union county workers with their union colleagues in similar positions, according to county spokesman Michael Workman.

“This is very routine,” he said.

The pay hikes, approved without any discussion by the Board of Supervisors, will cost the county about $3.1 million, according to a staff report.

Union workers previously negotiated a two-year contract that included no raises last year, but a 2 percent pay increase that takes effect July 1, according to Workman.

The county currently has about 16,500 full-time employees.
