Study: San Diego is eighth best college town in U.S.
By City News ServiceSan Diego is the eighth best large college town in America, beating out 214 other metropolitan areas in a study released this week.
The American Institute for Economic Research, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, examined 222 metropolitan areas with student populations of 15,000 or more for the study, which came out Tuesday. Information for the study came from neutral third parties, such as the Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the National Science Foundation.
The top 75 areas were ranked based on numerous factors, including the cost of living, arts and leisure activities and professional opportunities.
San Diego ranked No. 8 in between Los Angeles in the No. 7 spot and Minneapolis-St. Paul in the No. 9 spot, according to the study, which found San Francisco to be the best large college town in the country.
