Society to take over Car Classic
BY JOHN BOLTHOUSEAs was recently announced, the La Jolla Historical Society is assuming the role of presenting organization of the La Jolla Motor Car Classic, starting with the sixth annual event on Sunday, Jan. 10.
This popular classic car show has been held at Scripps Park overlooking La Jolla Cove since 2004. Every year, the event not only showcases over 100 highly prized and historic automobiles from all over the nation, but also produces a significant revenue stream for itself and La Jolla’s small-business community.
Since 2004, the event had been organized by Promote La Jolla. As reported in recent months, Promote La Jolla has been facing growing challenges, placing the continuation of this popular event in doubt. With the consent of Promote La Jolla, the volunteer organizing committee of the La Jolla Motor Car Classic inquired whether the La Jolla Historical Society would take over the event from Promote La Jolla. After careful consideration, the society’s board of directors enthusiastically agreed to step in to help ensure that the La Jolla Motor Car Classic would continue as an annual event for the community.
From our Secret Garden Tour to our seasonal lecture series to our public exhibition program, the La Jolla Historical Society takes great pride in highlighting the collective heritage and community character of La Jolla. With the opportunity to showcase another unique aspect of history and preservation - classic automobiles - we are confident La Jolla will continue to benefit from an enjoyable annual event while presenting the La Jolla Historical Society with a successful fundraiser.
We appreciate all La Jollans’ support of both the La Jolla Motor Car Classic and the society’s continuing efforts to make a positive difference in the community.
