Small quake rattles area near Palomar Observatory

A 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck about 10 miles north northeast of Palomar Observatory, according to U.S. Geological Survey.

The moderate earthquake was recorded at 11:47 p.m. Friday at depth of 15 kilometers, according to the U.S.G.S.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Quakes in the

magnitude-3 range can be felt but rarely cause structural damage.
