Small fire breaks out in Juice Kaboose
By City News ServiceA possible arson fire spread through an unoccupied juice bar in La Jolla at Juice Kaboose at 7556 Fay Ave. early Monday, causing an estimated $150,000 in monetary losses.
“A call came in at 3:40 a.m. on the 300-square-foot coffee shop,” said Maurice Luque, San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman. “It was declared under control 8 minutes after the first unit, Engine 13, arrived on the scene in 4 minutes and 7 seconds.”
Luque said two other fire units, Engine 9 and Engine 16, arrived on the scene shortly after at 43 seconds, and 2 minutes 57 seconds, respectively.
“There was smoke and fire showing when they (units) first got there,” said Luque.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
Damage estimates were $150,000 total - $100,000 to the structure and $50,000 to the contents, said Luque.
The origin of the fire appeared suspicious, though the cause remained under investigation in the mid-afternoon.
