SK Sanctuary comforts breast cancer patients, survivors

Breast cancer patients and survivors gathered at SK Sanctuary on Oct. 28 to be pampered, rejuvenated and inspired.

The women, many wearing their wigs and scarves, received free spa services and had the opportunity to meet former Olympic swimmer and breast cancer survivor Deena Deardurff Schmidt. The gold medalist spoke about her happy Olympic days and her darker days with cancer. She delivered a clear message: nobody fighting breast cancer should feel alone.

That message was carried throughout the event and is ultimately behind why Dr. Stephen Krant, owner of SK Sanctuary, has been holding these monthly events for almost eight years. Last week’s event marked the 88th Breast Cancer Night at the spa, Krant said.

Other speakers at the event were Channel 10’s Bill Griffith, who is a male breast cancer survivor, Eve Selis and Mattie Mills, who is a 28-month breast cancer survivor.
