Site preparation under way for fisheries science center
Since Nov. 1, dump trunks have been queuing up La Jolla Shores Drive and coming down loaded with soil from the site of the new Southwest Fisheries Science Center (SWFSC) laboratory on the campus of Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UCSD. A total of 127 cubic yards of soil from the site being graded will be removed between now and March.
The 120,000-square-foot facility, due for completion in 2011, will house up to 330 staff members. Officials are continuing to iron out problems with dump trucks getting backed up to and from the project site.
