SIO, UCSD project a finalist in National Geographic contest

Clinton Edwards, a coral reef researcher at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and Clifford Kapono, a chemistry Ph.D. student at UC San Diego, are among the finalists in the National Geographic “Expedition Granted” contest. The team is proposing a one-year project, which they are calling “Through the Surface,” to map the health of the coral reefs around the world, using large-scale underwater photo-mosaic technology. The winning proposal receives $50,000 and is decided by a public vote, which is open through Sept. 29. More details about all the finalists and voting at ExpeditionGranted.NationalGeographic.com
