Show time
An opening reception for “Self-Explosion,” the fourth exhibition from Taylor Marie Prendergast, 19, of La Jolla, will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. March 26 at Galeria JAN, 1250 Prospect St., La Jolla.
The works, created in 2009 and 2010, will remain on display through April 11. The gallery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Studying under the instruction of Joze Ciuha on the island of Shipan in Croatia, Prendergast has expanded not only on her technical abilities over the last few years, but also her heightened sense of undaunted self-expression.
According to gallery staff, “What is exquisite about Prendergast’s work is that the mixed-media pieces she creates have a voice all their own, absent of the markers of restrictive cannons of art.”
Prendergast states that her new stage of art-making has allowed her to “explode myself in a sense.”
Galeria JAN was established in 1986 in Sarajevo, Bosnia, by Biljana Beran. In 1996, Galeria JAN was reopened in La Jolla with a large group of European artists contributing to its fine art collection. The gallery represents world-renowned living artists, as well as old European
masters. www.galeriajan.com.
